SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – After months of tense negotiations – the House of Representatives has passed a $1 Trillion infrastructure bill tonight.
In a 228 to 206 vote – a major priority for President Biden’s domestic agenda becomes a political victory for democrats. The measure includes significant investments in roads, bridges, railways and broadband internet. It passed largely along party lines – with 13 Republicans joining 215 Democrats in support of the legislation. But the bill also saw six progressive Democrats vote against it because a larger social spending measure failed to also secure enough support for a floor vote today. This is separate from the “social spending bill.”
Until tonight progressives vowed to oppose the passage of the infrastructure bill until both bills were voted on. But in a letter tonight the chairwoman of the progressive caucus said they agreed to move forward after moderates committed to vote on the second bill no later than November 15th. The house later passed a procedural rule to guarantee that bill gets voted on.
KUSI’s Ginger Jeffries spoke to Representative Darrell Issa before the infrastructure bill was passed, to get his thoughts.
