Leading conservative organization calls out Carl DeMaio’s liberal, anti-life record.
The Issa for Congress campaign announced today FRC Action PAC, the political action committee connected with Family Research Council Action, had endorsed him in the race for California’s 50th Congressional District.
FRC Action is the political arm of the Family Research Council. Founded in 1983, FRC seeks to articulate and advance a family-centered philosophy of public life, while informing the news media, academic community, business leaders, and general public about family issues that affect the nation from a biblical worldview.
“Darrell Issa is a leader who is committed to supporting President Trump’s conservative agenda. The President has established a stellar record on nominating pro-life judges, cutting taxes on working families, and standing for the conservative values that matter most to FRC Action members,” said FRC Action President Tony Perkins.
Issa has been a strong, consistent voice for pro-life values in Congress and has voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Issa has fought to pass important pro-life measures like the partial birth abortion ban and the Pain Capable Unborn Child Act. On the other hand, Carl DeMaio has been a long time pro-abortion politician who refuses to support any new protections for the lives of the unborn, including a ban on late-term abortions. DeMaio has repeatedly said he’d fight his party on social issues and announced that he would not cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood.
“A liberal, anti-life candidate should not be representing CA-50. That’s why we’re supporting Darrell Issa and his pro-life beliefs,” Perkins continued. “Darrell Issa’s opponent, Carl DeMaio, has numerous extreme liberal positions and would oppose President Trump’s pro-life, pro-family agenda. Carl DeMaio said, ‘the Republican Party needs to get out of the culture issues.’ When asked if he would support any new restrictions on elective abortion at any stage, Carl DeMaio replied, ‘No.’ This means he would oppose common-sense legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. These positions are the positions of Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic party, not the views of the majority of Americans.”
“I’d like to thank Tony Perkins and FRC Action for their endorsement,’ said Darrell Issa. “I’m proudly pro-life and believe that the stakes in this election are very high: we can either have a True Trump Conservative like me who will support President Trump’s agenda, or a pro-abortion Never Trumper in Carl DeMaio.”
